Compositor: Luke De-Sciscio
When I feel sorrow
I look upon my history with a heavy heart
I want what I let go
And there is things I should forget
But I can't leave my past behind me
It’s my shadow stretching back along the road
So I lift my hands
To the Sun and say
You have to be grateful for your past
Irrespective of the traps
That the lord put in your way
When the night won’t end
I get lost amongst the company of friends I have lost
Women who gave themselves to me
Love that still has a beating heart
Sometimes when I am weak I want to take it all away
Wash away the river of humanity
I feel sorrow for a life that is gone
I want to be free
Yeah, I can’t change what I have woven in this life
Can’t unpick the thread I spun behind me
So I look upon the world with open arms and say
You have to be grateful for your past
Irrespective of the traps
That the lord put in your way
Sometimes when I am sick from worry
And the rhythm in my head is stuck on you
I find myself searching your name
Trying desperately to forget what we shared
I look at your face and I find comfort
Though I'm not sure I recognise those eyes
I want to wake up and tell my people
That tomorrow should I awake then I should smile
I am thankful to have spent this time with you
That it hurts me now is evidence I'm alive
You are a blessing if I forget that I am bitter
I grow tired only of regretting that I smile
You have to be grateful for your past
Irrespective of the traps
That the lord put in your way
You have to be grateful for your past
Irrespective of the traps
That the lord put in your way
